Smoke Fired Terracotta Urn II
This piece was made on the potters wheel with terra-cotta clay. The surface is decorated by carving. The soft sheen is achieved through the application of terra sigillata, followed with light burnishing. After firing in an electric Kim, this piece was fired a second time inside a sagar, containing sawdust to create the smoke marks or “fire clouds” on the surface.
